Lauren Smith, MD, MPH, joins the board of directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts

"Lauren brings a unique perspective to the board,” says Phyllis Yale, board chair. “In addition to being a leader in health care delivery, and public health, she also brings a wealth of expertise related to health equity and the impact of social policy on child and family well-being.”

Lauren, is co-chief executive officer of FSG, a global social impact consulting firm that advises corporations, foundations, and nonprofit NGOs to help create social impact. Her previous leadership roles include serving as the medical director and then interim commissioner for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health; the national medical director of the Medical Legal Partnership for Children; the medical director of the pediatric inpatient service at Boston Medical Center; and served in multiple policy roles at the state and federal level. She currently serves on the board of the Health Law Advocates.
